COUGARS (2011) is a short American horror film written and directed by Lonnie Martin for Ningen Manga Productions. Starring Kendra North, Rebecca Hausman and Charlie Dreizen,

COUGARS tells the story of Sasha, a teenager at constant odds with the promiscuous ways of her mother, Bastet. When Sasha’s young friend Stuart decides to walk her home from school, she becomes forced to confront the dark secret that makes her more like her mother than she’d care to admit.

Not rated. 15:01 run time. Watch the film here …

My thoughts… COUGARS is a well-written coming-of-age horror story. The tension in the relationship between Sasha and Bastet is the force that drives this film, and Rebecca Hausman as Sasha, dripping with angst, is certainly an exciting fresh face. COUGARS is comparable to Cat People (1982) for its were-cats, but is more akin to Ginger Snaps (2000) for its hormonal metaphor.
