From the twisted minds of Leigh Whannell (co-creator of Saw and Insidious) and Ian Brennan (co-creator of Glee), Cooties is a horror comedy with unexpected laughs and unapologetic thrills. When a cafeteria food virus turns elementary school children into killer zombies, a group of misfit teachers must band together to escape the playground carnage. The film stars Elijah Wood, Rainn Wilson and Alison Pill as teachers who fight to survive the most unruly students ever on the worst Monday of their lives!
Rated R. 88 minutes. Watch the official trailer here …
My thoughts… Cooties is the best zombie-comedy since Zombieland (2009)! This is the kind of film I was hoping to see when I watched Scouts Guide to the Zombie Apocalypse last week! Scouts Guide was a good R-rated zom-com, but Cooties is an awesome R-rated zom-com! A zombie rage virus only infects children who haven’t gone through puberty and hobbit Frodo Baggins, paper salesman Dwight Schrute and Sex Bob-omb drummer Kim Pine find themselves fighting for survival against flesh-hungry zombie 9-year-olds! Cooties is funny, super gory, and ultra-violent! If you don’t want to see 4th graders killing and eating teachers and teachers beating, killing, dissecting the brains of and setting afire 4th graders – don’t see this movie! Cooties offers a wildly inventive and wonderfully taboo twist on the played-out zombie genre without forsaking the tropes that we’ve come to expect from it! The film even pays tribute to Japanese samurai epics, ’50s sci-fi B-movies, and ’80s actions films! “I’m giving you kids an F – for fuck you!” Wade (Rainn Wilson) snarls as he sprays the zombie 4th graders with a Super Soaker. “What are you doing? Water won’t hold them off!” Clint (Elijah Wood) shouts. “It ain’t water!” Wade replies. Then, he slips on a pair of sunglasses and strikes a match. “Nap time, motherfuckers!” he quips, and sets the children on fire! Brilliant! Oh, and Alison Pill is adorable!!
