Mr. J (2010) is a short Joker fan film shot and directed Kim Santiago for Blinky Productions. Written by Chris .R. Notarile & Kim Santiago. Starring Chris .R. Notarile as “The Joker” and Johanna Telander as “Dr. Harleen Quinzel/Harley Quinn”. Inspired by Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight (2008).

A tangent storyline that follows the Joker after the events The Dark Knight which land him in Arkham Asylum where he meets Dr. Harleen Quinzel. The series shows the mental decay of Dr. Quinzel and the emergence of her new persona, the clown girl lover to the Joker, Harley Quinn.

Mr. J was originally created as “4-part web series” as follows:

  • Call Me Mr. J (Part I) (2009) [14:20]. “Following the events of The Dark Knight, the Joker is sentenced to Arkham Asylum where he is placed into the hands of Dr. Harleen Quinzel, a slightly wet behind the ears psychiatrist and current replacement for Dr. Jonathan Crane (The Scarecrow). Spanning over the course of five individual therapy sessions, the Joker slowly peels off Harleen’s authoritative mask while molding her into an image he sees more fit- Harley Quinn.”
  • Anything You Say Mr. J (Part II) (2009) [8:28]. “Following the events of the first film Call Me Mr. J. We pick up several hours later, post Harleen and Joker’s final session. Now covered in blood and sporting his iconic knife, the Joker has Arkham’s own, Dr. David Thurman, gagged and bound to a chair while Harleen watches from court side as she unwittingly wanders deeper into the Joker’s madness.”
  • Well Done Mr. J (Part III) (2009) [7:29]. “The 3rd and final installment to the Mr. J series? After endless hours of mind warping, manipulation and promises of love, the Joker has finally turned Dr. Harleen Quinzel into the insanely lovable Harley Quinn. And now, after a bloody escape from Arkham asylum, the deadly couple seeks shelter inside a costume store where Harley physically blossoms into her new persona and the Joker reveals his new plans for Gotham City and Batman.”
  • Sincerely Mr. J (Part IV) (2010) [8:35]. “The 4th installment to the Mr. J saga. Picking up after a massive cliffhanger which put the Joker and Harley Quinn in a room with The Riddler, The Scarecrow, Poison Ivy and The Penguin; all hell is about to break loose as the rogues of Gotham band together, unleashing a diabolical plot to overturn the city’s underworld.”

My thoughts… Me – big fan of Chris .R. Notarile’s work. Chris .R. Notarile – friend of my other blog. Mr. J chronicles the origin of Harley Quinn at the hands of Notarile‘s Heath Ledger-inspired Joker. Paying tribute to one of the most revered cinematic portrayals of one the most notorious comic book villains is a difficult task, but I think Notarile did a great job!
