Automatic Loveletter was an alternative pop/rock band from Tampa, FL formed in 2005 as Stars and Scars by Juliet Simms (vocals/guitar), with her brother Tommy Simms (guitar) and Daniel Currier (drums). They became Automatic Loveletter in 2007. They suffered various record label woes and line-up changes but managed to release an EP and two albums before disbanding in 2012. Juliet Simms went on, that same year, to find success as the runner-up on the 2nd season of NBC‘s The Voice.

My thoughts… Automatic Loveletter was a criminally unrecognized band! Truth Or Dare, in particular, is an amazing alternative pop/rock album driven by Juliet Simms’ throaty vocals and introspective lyrics. Automatic Loveletter should be as well-known as Paramore. However, much like Paramore, I didn’t immediately fall in love with Automatic Loveletter! I downloaded Truth or Dare, back in 2012, but I wasn’t blown away and moved on. A few months after, I re-listened, on a whim, and soon began to wonder what I had missed the first time! Then, when I looked the band up online to find more music, I learned that singer Juliet Simms was, in fact, the Janis Joplin-esque rocker who was competing on The Voice that season! I’ve been a big fan of Automatic Loveletter and Juliet Simms ever since!
