My thoughts… I discovered Deadline in 2012 after stumbling upon their cover of Blondie‘s 1978 hit “Hanging On the Telephone”. Blondie‘s hit was actually a cover of a song written and originally recorded by the L.A.-based power pop band The Nerves in 1976. However, Blondie‘s version is the best known. The artwork for Deadline‘s single was an homage to the artwork for Blondie‘s 3rd studio album Parallel Lines from which “Hanging On the Telephone” was taken as the 3rd single …

“Hanging On the Telephone” is one of my favorite classic punk/new wave songs and Deadline‘s punky version is one of my favorite covers of the often-covered song! Deadline‘s single also included the Go-Go’s-esque “Pretences” and the punkier “Do You Think?” from their 4th album Take a Good Look. I was hooked! So I downloaded Deadline‘s entire discography and have been a big fan ever since!

Here’s my ranking of Deadline‘s six albums …

  1. Take a Good Look (2006) + “Hanging On the Telephone”.
  2. Bring the House Down (2010).
  3. Back For More… (2003).
  4. Getting Serious (2005).
  5. More To It… (2002).
  6. We’re Taking Over! (2008). Only 4 new studio tracks!
