When a spacecraft crash-lands into her barn, the owner of a small-town junkyard offers a cash reward to anyone who can kill her uninvited, space-suited alien guest. Every wacko within 100 miles turns out to kill the alien and claim the $100,000 reward – but it doesn’t take long for the junkyard to be transformed into a war zone of man vs. man vs. machine vs. alien vs. God only knows what.
Not rated. 92 minutes. Watch the trailer here …
My thoughts… Alien Opponent was originally broadcast on Chiller so, by rights, it should be as bad as most of the movies made by The Asylum and broadcast on Syfy, right? Wrong. Alien Opponent is good. Really good. It’s like Predator meets The Tournament – in a junkyard! The film’s premise is outrageously dumb but Alien Opponent succeeds because of some cheeky dark humor, an insanely high body count and, best of all, a well-crafted, practically-realized “uninvited, space-suited alien guest” that employs a variety of crazy defenses such parasitic alien slugs, razor-wire traps, a robotic land shark, a weaponized “junkbot”, a zombie priest, and more! Oh, and Alien Opponent offers a stripper turned alien hunter who kicks as much ass in the junkyard as she bares in the club! Sure, Jeremy London (as con man Brooklyn Davis) and the late Roddy Piper (as mercenary priest Father Melluzzo) are top-billed but Adrienne LaValley (as badass stripper Linnea Gold) is the real star!
