Undead or Alive (2007) is a Western horror comedy written & directed by Glasgow Phillips for Dark Lot Entertainment. Story by Scott Pourroy & Glasgow Phillips. Starring Chris Kattan, James Denton, Navi Rawat, Matt Besser, Chris Coppola, and Leslie Jordan.

In this unusual take on the Old West, an innocent cowboy, Luke, with his new partner, Elmer, fleece a crooked sheriff and attempt to disappear in the desert. Now, only Geronimo’s smart and beautiful niece Sue can help them break a mysterious Indian curse and escape from Sheriff Zombie’s bloodthirsty posse. Will romance between Luke and Sue blossom, or will the undead permanently keep them apart?

Rated R. 91 minutes. Watch the official trailer here …

My thoughts… For the record, I think SNL alum Chris Kattan is annoying. I don’t like anything he’s ever done on SNL [Mr. Peepers, Mango, etc] or in movies [A Night at the Roxbury, Corky Romano, etc] – except for Undead or Alive. This “zombedy” is an entertaining mix of Western adventure, zombie gore and smart comedy! Kattan is good as inept cowboy Luke as is James Denton [Desperate Housewives] as army deserter Elmer but this film works, for me, because of Navi Rawat [Numb3rs] as Geronimo’s niece Sue who hopes to take revenge on the soldiers who killed her uncle! Sue, as in Susan not Sioux [since Geronimo was Apache], was raised in New York and, because of her school activities, is highly skilled in riding, archery and fencing! She is as bad-ass as she is beautiful! I’ve had a crush on Navi Rawat, who is of Indian/German descent, ever since I first seen her as Theresa Diaz on The O.C.! Anyway, aside from Navi Rawat, Undead or Alive works because it’s pretty damn funny! My favorite part is when Sue, Luke and Elmer arrive at the Grand Canyon and argue about geography, Western civilization and our monkey ancestors! “Read a book!” Sue snaps at uneducated Luke! Oh, and the end delivers a deliciously cruel twist! Watch Undead or Alive and you just might find an unexpectedly fun Western zombie comedy. If not, well, there’s always Navi Rawat!
