My thoughts… I don’t “get” Youtube personalities. My daughter, however, like most teens and pre-teens, loves them. All of them, like Colleen Ballinger, Jenna Marbles, Tyler Oakley, PewDiePie, Joey Graceffa, etc. I even paid 30 bucks for Gaby to meet and greet Twaimz at the Cleveland Improv earlier this year! Anyway, Youtube personalities Grace Helbig and Hannah Hart star in Electra Woman & Dyna Girl, a reboot of the live-action Sid & Marty Krofft TV series from 1976. I used to watch that show and, while most boys my age back then were dreaming about being Superman, Spiderman or Batman, I was dreaming about being with Elektra Woman (Deidre Hall) and Dyna Girl (Judy Strangis) every Saturday morning! However, this reboot is really only a reboot of that kitschy series in name only. Helbig and Hart’s Electra Woman & Dyna Girl is really just a witty parody of female superheroes and Youtube celebrity.

Elektra Woman/Lori (Helbig) and Dyna Girl/Judy (Hart) are struggling superheroes in small-town Ohio. After one of their adventures goes viral, the crime-fighting duo is called to Hollywood for a glitzy superhero reboot. Elektra Woman is cast as the solo heroine of pre-fabricated superhero fame while poor Dyna Girl is knocked down to a mere sidekick – until a major threat forces them both back to the simple pursuit of justice!

I love the first four minutes of this fun film in which Elektra Woman and Dyna Girl are berated by their sarcastic and bitchy teen neighbor Bernice (Metraya Fedor) in their apartment. “I wish your dad just put you in a tissue,” Elektra Woman tells her. Bernice was fantastic and when the action shifted to Hollywood, I was disappointed that Bernice was left behind! But, then …

Bernice is revealed to be the major threat in the film’s climax! She’s a teenage super villain with actual superpowers, unlike those “powerless losers” Elektra Woman and Dyna Girl! “Hey, fun fact: you can’t spell Bernice without ‘Be Nicer’,” Dyna Girl quips. Evil [and sexy] villain Bernice is just as wonderful as snotty [and cute] teen Bernice!

Anyway, Electra Woman & Dyna Girl is a fun superhero movie. Gaby liked it, too.
