My thoughts… I reference Brody Dalle on this blog, like, a lot. I do this for two reasons. First, The Distillers are my favorite female-fronted punk rock band, bar none; and Brody Dalle in the early 2000’s, with her black mohawk and smoky eyes, was an iconic vision of punk beauty. She’s still beautiful now, of course, but she’s blonde with less of a punk snarl. Second, I think Brody Dalle has one of the best female voices in punk and alternative rock. I love Dalle’s post-Distillers work but, truth be told, I love the punk attitude of The Distillers much more. So, I often find myself gravitating towards punk bands fronted by gravelly-voiced women to fill the void left after The Distillers‘ demise. However, I will listen to anything Brody Dalle sings. If she wants to do polkas next, I’m in. I hope she doesn’t, but I’d buy the record! My favorite post-Distillers Brody Dalle song, by the way, is Spinnerette‘s “Ghetto Love”. It’s an awesome song and Dalle looks amazing the video! I also think that “Don’t Mess With Me” would sound great by The Distillers circa 2003!
